JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position:  

Special Education Teacher-Elementary

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Arizona Special Education Cross Categorical Teacher Certification

Bachelors Degree required.

Must meet Arizona Appropriately Certified Requirements mandated by the Every Student Succeeds Act

Experience preferred.

 

REPORTS TO: 

Building Principal for all site based issues and performance evaluation and the Special Services Director for all IDEA and legal issues.

 

JOB GOAL:

To provide each student with a disability individualized specially designed instruction he or she needs to make progress toward educational goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Determine specific learning needs and/or social/emotional needs of students and initiates specially designed instruction in these areas for each student through the development of an IEP (using district software) for each student using age appropriate standards.

 

Evaluate each student in terms of initial needs and progress toward goals identified by IEP team and provide assessments as warranted such as state assessments, achievement tests, etc.

 

Prepare progress reports and year-end evaluations, administering pre-tests and post-tests as appropriate and necessary and any paperwork needed for compliance and accountability.

 

Develop and keep lesson plans, contact logs, data logs on student objectives to be turned in regularly or as requested.

 

Select and utilize individualize teaching materials and equipment appropriate for each student.

 

Provide supervision, instruction and training to special education Para-professionals in academics and activities for daily living.

 

Collaborate with other teachers and related service providers to support the students in the general and special education classroom through co-assessing, co-planning and co-instructing.

 

Work with parents to help understand special education process and work together to make sure everyone is working collaboratively on all goals for the student. 

 

Stay abreast of new developments in the field through publications, professional development and colleagues.

 

Understand and comply with FERPA regulations.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or the Special Education Director.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine-month position, 10 month calendar. Salary and work to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
