Social Worker
Purpose Statement To support the District's academic mission by providing emotional, behavioral, social and prevention services to students and their families enabling students to be resilient, successful learners and gain personal and social competencies.
Essential Functions
- Assess needs of students through observations, social history interviews and consultations with teachers and other staff and provide direct interventions (support groups, brief psych educational individual sessions, mediations, behavior management plans, and classroom presentations, teacher support) to help ensure the success of students.
- Provide consultation to school administrator(s), teachers, staff and parents regarding assessment and intervention plans of students targeted for services.
- Coordinate prevention education programs on various topics (Behavioral Health Team participation, Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies, bully prevention, peer mediation, substance use awareness, and character education).
- Participate in multidisciplinary team evaluations and meetings including intervention meetings, child study teams, individualized education plans and 504 plans.
- Facilitate referrals to community agencies to help meet the needs of students and families.
- Participate in crisis intervention services as requested by administration (respond in a timely manner to crisis situations, assume leadership or guidance roles as requested, facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies for needed follow up as appropriate).
- Support school administrator(s) with student discipline as appropriate.
- Coordinate school programs that address the physical needs of students and their families such as food, clothing, and shelter and holiday assistance.
- Monitor school attendance of students and provide interventions to improve school attendance including implementation of truancy policies.
- Serve on school committees and District social work committees as directed by administrator(s).
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Social Work Code of Ethics and sensitivity to diverse cultures.
- Maintain professional documentation on students served per District policy.
- Maintain adequate safeguards for the confidentiality of information as the circumstances require.
- Participate in or lead professional growth opportunities through various means such as staff development opportunities, conferences, seminars and workshops.
- Other related duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements
Experience, Education, and Certifications Experience:2 Years of successful Social Work Experience or One Year of Field Instruction in a School System. Trained in Conflict Resolutions. Education: Master's degree from an accredited educational institution Certifications/Clearances: Arizona State Certified. Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed. |
