TITLE: Special Education Aide
Full Time: 31 hours per week
REQUIREMENTS:
- Provide Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- AA Degree or Higher Educational Level or Pass Paraprofessional Examination
- Must be able to keep up with children (i.e. run, walk, play)
- Must be physically agile and able to bend down and or be able to sit and play on the ground
- Must be able to lift, if needed, 50+ pounds
REPORTS TO:
- Special Education Director and Principal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in a collaborative team effort with teachers and other staff.
- Assist in both the academic instruction and behavior management as needed, of assigned students to help meet the student’s needs as specified on his or her individualized educational plan.
- Supervise and monitor students in a variety of school settings including when “in transition” from one setting to another for the student’s own protection and the protection of others, including on the bus if needed.
- Assist the classroom teacher with classroom students when assigned students are successfully working independently.
- Participate in training activities related to the position and student needs.
- Conference with teacher and related staff on a regular basis on student progress/challenges.
- Maintain a variety of student logs (data collection).
- Be flexible and adjust job duties based on student needs.
- Respect any confidential information regarding students by not discussing these with any other adults not directly involved in the educational program of the student, both inside and outside of the school setting.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or the Special Education Director.
