Student Wellness Coordinator

 

Position Summary:

The Student Wellness Coordinator provides leadership and direct support for student wellness, discipline, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional development at West Sedona Elementary School. This position is designed to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment by integrating counseling services, student discipline, proactive behavior supports, and school climate initiatives with the ultimate goal of improving student outcomes and experiences.

The Student Wellness Coordinator serves as a key member of the school leadership team, working collaboratively with the principal, teachers, families, and community partners to address student needs through restorative, developmentally appropriate, and data-informed practices. This role emphasizes prevention, early intervention, relationship-building, and consistent implementation of student discipline and wellness systems.

 

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Principal, West Sedona Elementary School.

Student Wellness, School Climate, and Culture

• Lead and support schoolwide wellness initiatives that promote student well-being and belonging.
• Reinforce behavioral supports, restorative practices, and positive school climate initiatives.
• Collaborate with teachers to address classroom behavior concerns and provide strategies for student support.
• Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.

Social Emotional Support

• Provide individual and small-group support for students’ social-emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
• Support students in crisis and assist with de-escalation, safety planning, and intervention as needed.
• Deliver classroom lessons focused on social-emotional learning, self-regulation, conflict resolution, and resilience.
• Support students in developing healthy coping strategies and positive peer relationships.

Supervision, Safety, and School Supervision

• Assist with student supervision during arrival, recess, lunch, and dismissal as needed.
• Support school safety procedures and crisis response efforts.
• Contribute to a positive, orderly, and supportive school environment.

Student Discipline and Behavior

• Administer student discipline in accordance with district policies, Arizona law, and school procedures.
• Investigate behavioral incidents and determine appropriate, developmentally appropriate consequences.
• Implement progressive and restorative discipline practices focused on student growth and accountability.
• Communicate with families regarding disciplinary incidents, expectations, and follow-up supports.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential discipline documentation and records.

Collaboration and Student Support Teams

• Collaborate with the principal to establish clear standards for instructional quality and student progress.
• Support site administrators in coaching and evaluating instructional staff, focusing on growth and improved practice.
• Provide direct instructional guidance and model effective classroom practices.
• Assist in the development of master schedules to maximize instructional time and program effectiveness.
• Participate regularly in site-level PLCs, staff meetings, and district leadership meetings when needed.

Data, Documentation, and Professional Practice

• Maintain accurate and confidential student records related to job description
• Use data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement of student supports and wellness practices.
• Adhere to ethical, legal, and professional standards associated with student support roles.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning related to student wellness, discipline, and school climate.
  
  

General Duties

• Maintain prompt, reliable in-person attendance and availability during the school day and as required.
• Participate in school-based and district committees as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Arizona Department of Education-issued certification or licensure appropriate to the role.
• Experience working with elementary-age students.
• Knowledge of child development, student discipline practices, and social-emotional learning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, education, school administration, or a closely related field.
• Experience administering student discipline in a school setting.
• Familiarity with MTSS, and restorative practices.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
